Ynys Ettws Bridge Inspection

Please accept my apologies if accessing the hut is a little trickier for a while on Friday 4th May…

Please note that on Friday 4th May the bridge at Ynys Ettws will be inspected by our contracted civil engineering firm (Datrys). This inspection is in preparation for the Ynys remodelling works – i.e. will the bridge stand up to heavy loads of construction materials and plant machinery going over it? Of course it will also give the club important information about the general state of repair of the bridge and if, as a separate project, we need to invest in the maintenance of this vital structure (remembering that this bridge is also the Club’s war memorial).

  1. Thanks to anyone who had to wait a moment or two while our civil engineers, Datrys, completed the survey of the main Ynys access bridge on May 4th. This was scheduled some time ago to avoid the fish spawning season.

Anyway as a follow up for those interested in the outcome, here’s a summary:
Generally the bridge is in good condition with only what boils down to some cosmetic issues that we could probably deal with by sorting out a maintenance meet with a few people with the right professional building skills. (This is perhaps something for the HMSC to consider organising in due course.) However, the shape (steep hump causing potential wheel lift-off for dual axel trucks) and the thickness of the surface covering mean we do have a weight limit that isn’t over generous to bear in mind. This is 13 tonnes GVW (gross vehicle weight, i.e. truck and load).

So if any members are thinking of buying themselves a supersized motorhome, please observe the 13 tonne GVW restriction! 🙂
