CC Spring Aspirants Meet – Ynys Ettws

The sun shone all weekend, except on Dinas Mot. Those who chose south facing crags out of the wind could pretend it was summer, and the CC members and wannabees were dispersed from the Moelwyns to Holyhead. It was a very full meet with around 10 aspirants and a good number of members in support.

Most esoteric route of the weekend prize goes to Fruit and Alan for their ascent of Angel Pavement – they would dispute the 3 stars very strongly. Longest day out prize goes to Hilary, Spenser and Alan (again) for Main Wall – out at 9 and back at 6pm. Gogarth had several ascents and there was also a late return by Tim and Simon who got along to (with a wee wetting) to Hypodermic on Main Cliff (after doing Gogarth). Coldest team were Catherine and Andrew on the Mot, persevering for Direct Route and Diagonal. Best surprise pitch was the maligned Pitch 3 of Nea led by Andy.

The meet buzzed with chatter and enthusiasm on both nights, and there was a surfeit of food and drink. Spenser pulled out the culinary stops with a magnificent Summer Pudding and 2 enormous meat pies that would have defeated Desperate Dan. Fruit added apple crumble and custard and the vegans/vegetarians failed to scoff all the curry. Seconds and thirds of everything were had on Saturday night, Sunday morning and evening . . .

Thanks to all the attendees who made the meet a success.
