A group of 14 members and guests including 2 aspirant members arrive for a fabulous meet – great company, great tides, sunshine, mushrooms galore, no firing & wind blowing over the cliffs so very warm on the crag!

Friday saw ascents at Becks Bay (including the remarkable SeaTube) and a late rapid ascent of Deidre Sud. Teams were sorted and Saturday’s crag visits included Flimston & Bow Slabs, Mowing Word, Stennis Head, Bosherston Head and Saddle Head. Other place visited over the long weekend included Porthclais, Crickmail Point and Crystal Slabs.

“Sitting down for a brew at May Cottage, my eyes were drawn to Chris Jackson’s black and white photo of Mowing Word. looking across the low-tide, sandy beach. Diedre Sud, ground-up would be a good objective, assuming the tides were right.

On Saturday, while Andrew and Andrea did The Curver, I scoped the approach from the Gun Cliff and at about 2 o’clock we abbed in by the fisherman’s rusty ring. A quick walk across the beach got us to the belay platform, and with the tide rapidly rising, Andrea made a speedy lead. Mission accomplished!”

Team York were introducing a friend to her first sea cliff climbing so we kept it all pretty chilled and relaxed. On Saturday we went to flimsy on slabs and then Bow Shaped Slab. On Sunday we went off to Porthclais and had another gorgeous late summer day in the sunshine. Ana went home on Sunday evening so on Monday the remaining trio had a fun morning at Stennis Arête. Plus I picked loads of mushrooms for tea and breakfast and somehow failed to poison anyone.
