We regret to report that Steve Howarth died last December. We received this from his wife Sarah together with some photos. We offer our condolances to Sarah, family and friends.

“It is with great sadness and disbelief that I write to tell you of the death of Stephen Howarth, one of your members. He died unexpectedly in his sleep on December 6th 2017 at home. He and I (his wife) had many happy trips with the CC – notably the Easter meets in France; staying in the Grange hut for winter trips to the Lakes; a memorable summer down at the Count House and many trips to Wales. Thank you for facilitating these memories. As well as out personal climbing trips we also helped teach the next generation of climbers – Steve was instrumental in this and we took many trips from school into the mountains. At least one of your members is a former student of Steve’s.

Thank you again for the memories.
Best wishes,
Sarah Wittams-Howarth”
