Climbers: BJ Clarke (solo)

Swirl How

Length/grade/stars: 10m S1 F5

Start location:

Opposite the traverse of The Rocket House the ridge forming the top of the eastern wall if the entrance to The Barn contains an obvious step. Eight metres below this step is a flaky ledge to the left of a dark slab by wall. Start on the flaky ledge (awash at high tide!), gained by abseil.

Pitch descriptions:

Step right and traverse rightwards across the dark, slab by wall to gain and finish up a shallow groove.

Whirlpool

Length/grade/stars: 7m S1 F4+

Start location:

Thirty metres left of Swirl How (looking out) is a small buttress with a prow overlooking a tiny, but frequently turbulent inlet. Start from a small white shelf, below the prow. Gain it by a short abseil or a down-climb (VD).

Pitch descriptions:

Launch up the prow using juggy, crozzly holds!

Additional info:

Be wary of the whirling eddy currents which afflict this area; hence the route names!
