Richard Brooke

Sadly Richard died on Monday 29th June after a stroke. I am sure Dave Viggers remembers well the incredible trip to Scotland with Richard and Mike Banks in 1975 plus the Alpine trip that included the Hirondelles Ridge on the Grande Jorasses.

Richard was a member of the CC for over 66 years. We pass on our condolences to his family and friends.

I climbed with him for many more years in the Alps, Scotland, the Lakes and Wales. He was without doubt the fittest person I have ever known, still going well when we did the Peuterey Ridge and Mt Blanc when he was 55.

Richards family have asked me to write an obituary for Richard which I will gladly do.
Richard had a very busy mountaineering and climbing life including expeditions to the Polar regions and the Himalayas.

My first Alpine trip was with Richard Mike nd one other in the early 70s. Both were not only highly competent mountaineers but very supportive and friendly. I believe Richard was the first man to overwinter in both the Arctic and Antarctic. RIP.

Richard used to take me climbing as a teenager to Wintours and Wyndcliffe back in the 70s. Lovely guy. RIP.
