Saturday started with great weather, and most teams got an early start. However, this was curtailed by an impressive monsoon that saw teams scurrying back to the hut or hiding in the Froggatt cave. After a few hours, the skies cleared and most went straight back out to chase jamming points. Due to the unwanted weather interlude, the deadline for point chasing was extended to Sunday 5pm.
Food on Saturday evening was provided by Peri – a very high class lamb stew that proved very popular, and by Mary (my ever-suffering wife) who laid on all accessories and the veggie chilli.
Sunday kicked off with good weather that ultimately turned out to be rather warm. The eager teams (I’m looking at you, Wendy and Tom) set off early, the rest slowly followed. As Saturday, the Eastern edges saw CC members scuttling around, checking bits of paper and hurtling onwards. Much grunting and sweating later, we returned to the hut for final scores.
Wendy and Tom put in a fine show, especially for her first CC meet. However, Mark Kemball’s determination (both with climbing and dragging James Mann up too many routes) won the day. Yet again. He will be knocked of his perch next year. There will be a slightly revised list, with a guest appearance of a ten pointer. Any takers?! Scores by the end of the weekend:
Climbers | Routes (on the list) | Points |
Mark & James | 17 | 65 |
Wendy & Tom | 15 | 54 |
Rob, Dave & Will | 13 | 48 |
Me | 5 | 20 |
The Saxbys | 3 | 8 |
Chris & Helen | 1 | 4 |
Peri, Terry & Pete | 2 | … |
Bob & Ezra | MIA |
