Aspirants’ Meet 2022

Eleven enthusiastic aspirants and 13 Climbers Club members attended the aspirants meet at Ynys Ettws even though the weather forecast was not good.

Friday was sunny and early arrivals grabbed their gear and went to climb on Carreg Wastad, climbing Skylon, Wrinkle, Crackstone Rib and Ribstone Crack. Saturday, we woke to rain and that continued for most of the day. Groups drove to Holyhead and Tremadog, but it was raining there too. Some groups went to the wall, whilst Paul Scott and Mick Green went to Carreg Hylldrem and completed The Girdle Traverse with Matt Lewis and Richard Atkinson. When the weather improved ascents were made of Christmas Curry, Tremadog and Shadow Wall, and other climbs at Carreg Wastad. Another group went for a long sea walk and coffee and cake at Cathy and David’s. A group meal of Chilli was enjoyed by a large group of 27 with Cathy and David and the Cornwall group staying at CGM popping over to join us. Sunday was a better day and groups went to Tremadog, Idwal Slabs, Carreg Hylldrem, Carreg Wastad.

Thank you to all the Climbers Club members who gave up their time to attend this meet and climb with the aspirants. Much of the time Ynys Ettws buzzed with conversation discussing the next day’s climbs, sharing knowledge, and enthusing about the club. It was a real pleasure to see Ynys Ettws in action again even though we were all on camping chairs.
