The western side of Eryri is, from a climbing perspective, the quiet side, climbing here feels far away from the crowds of Llanberis or Ogwen. There is plenty of high quality climbing on both valley and mountain crags with routes across the full spread of grades, from Diffs that can be climbed in boots that take you to summit ridges to mega-routes on the outrageously steep Castell Cidwm and intimidating Craig y Bera. It also encompasses the roadside slab routes of Drws y Coed, some of the Joe Brown era’s finest classics, and a good selection of winter gullies.
