CLOGWYN DU'R ARDDU
2004 Nick Dixon
Clogwyn Du'r Arddu, The Black Cliff or Cloggy as it is affectionately known is the iconic mountain crag of Eryri and one of the UK’s finest. Successive generations of pioneers have crafted many beautiful and challenging routes on the various buttresses: from the great VSs of the 1930s to the big numbers on the Great Wall. Everyone capable of climbing VS or above should sample the unique atmosphere of this crag by doing at least one route on it. This is a big and serious cliff, all the climbs are committing and it isn't a place to try to learn new skills, the commitment means that memories of any route will stay with you long after the event.
Given its significance in Welsh climbing the usual Historical section has been expanded further with historical commentary by the author and numerous quotations and opinions on the routes from a number of Cloggy enthusiasts. The book gets off to a cracking start with Neil Gresham’s riveting and personal account of his (the third) ascent of The Indian Face.
