HELYG

In the heart of the Ogwen Valley with superb views of Tryfan, Helyg is steeped in the history of British climbing. It was our first climbing hut and was used as a base by the great pioneers of Welsh climbing in the 1920s and 30s, later it was used as a training base for the 1953 Everest expedition. The Hut is preserved in as near to its original form as possible to retain the authentic atmosphere of those early times, this has included not evicting the resident ghost! In recognition of its importance the hut was listed as a building of special historic importance in 2017. WiFi available.
Water supply is from a private borehole.
A dedicated Helyg Centenary page has been created to bring together everything related to this milestone.
