R O DOWNES HUT
This comfortable centrally heated bungalow is a former water-works building that was bought as a memorial to Bob Downes, an outstanding young member of the club who tragically died during an attempt on Masherbrum in 1958. It is ideally located for both Grit and Limestone climbing and it is a short and easy walk to Froggatt Edge. There are limited facilities for disabled users.

- Number of Beds: 17
- Room Sizes: 8 (rear), 9 (front)
- Members’ Room: Front (9 bed). A member's guest may stay in this room if the other room is booked out to a group.
- Under 18s: Members only, either camping/van or in the booked rear room (Sunday - Thursday).
- Ambulated Disability Bed: Members only 1 bed in front bedroom
- Camping and sleeping in vehicles: Members only (max 3 small tents).
Who can book
Members may book beds at any time, other bookings are subject to the following conditions. The hut is reserved for members and their guests when a meet is based there and for members, their guests and members of our Kindred Clubs over all public holidays. Members may bring children provided they either camp/sleep in a vehicle or book the rear room, the latter option is only available Sunday - Thursday. The rear bedroom can be booked for exclusive use. At all other times BMC, Mountaineering Ireland and Mountaineering Scotland members or goups may book a maximum of 8 beds in the rear room. We are unable to accept bookings from youth or student groups.

Situated on the west side of the A625, 1km north of the Chequers Inn. There is a white name sign at the head of the driveway, easily seen when approaching from either direction. If arriving from the North (Sheffield direction) drivers should be aware that a very tight right-turn is required to enter the drive and it is recommended that drivers continue 1km to the Chequers Inn and make a U turn there. ///fixture.regular.jousting
