Description

What more can be said, Cloggy as it is affectionately known is the iconic mountain crag of Snowdonia and one of the UK’s finest. The crag has offered successive generations of climbers cutting edge challenges and this is reflected in the collection of stand-out routes on the various buttresses, from the great VSs of the 1930s to the big numbers on the Great Wall. Although the author Nick Dixon is famed for his very hard first ascents and repeats, he has also sought to raise the profile of many of the easier classics. This is a big and serious cliff and the memories of any route on it will stay with you long after the event. Route descriptions are clear and concise, and supported by nearly twenty photodiagrams lovingly prepared by Don Sargeant. All known winter routes are included, with their first ascent details and some photographs.

Instead of the usual Historical, section the extended Ascents Anthology has been expanded further with historical commentary by the author and numerous quotations and opinions on the routes from a number of current and recent Cloggy enthusiasts. The book gets off to a cracking start with Neil Gresham’s riveting and personal account of his (the third) ascent of The Indian Face.
